Evolution Unit Reflection
-What did you learn from this unit?
I learned about the causes of evolution and adaptation, such as randomized mutations in a gene pool, survivability of mutated species, and the ability and success of reproduction in mutated organisms. I also learned about the different theories generated by humans about evolution through the years of exploration and discovery in the field of study. As well as these subjects, I learned about the slow development of minor changes to creatures, and their effects on the ecosystem.
-Which activity did you learn the most from?
I believe that I learned the most from the transitional species model project. This project delved deeper into the middle of the process of evolution, instead of the before and after of the change. It was interesting to look into why these changes occurred and what happened to the organism during it.
-What connections did you make between the evolutionary processes you learned about and your own heritage/ancestry?
I connected from the videos of "Your Inner Fish", because they went into our primitive ancestry about where our features came from and how they developed the way that they did. It also explained fossils, and how we can connect them, and the organisms they are from, to our current lives and abilities.
-What did you enjoy most about this unit?
I enjoyed learning about the changes that occurred in our past and in our DNA through the history of our species and the development of the several current existing phyla. This was interesting because it showed how unlikely changes can create whole new classes of animals, from fish to mammals.
-What did this unit make you curious about?
I am now curious about more transitional species between single celled organisms and us today, and the development of features that we retain today, and their origins. I am also interested in more theories of how evolution truly happens over time and how different areas and climates affect different species.
